Position: Shelter Monitor (Part-Time)

Location: Rockville, CT

About Cornerstone:

Position Overview:
The Shelter Monitor is an entry-level professional position designed to assist and help manage the operation of three homeless shelters serving homeless families. The Shelter Monitor is responsible for providing a positive living environment, promoting independence, and ensuring clients' basic needs are met.

​

Key Accountabilities:

​

1. General Responsibilities:
   - Complete all duties in accordance with the Standards and Policies & Procedures of Cornerstone.
   - Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training.
   - Suggest improvements to efficiency, working conditions, or procedures to the Shelter Director.
   - Perform necessary clerical duties for client documentation, including forms, computer entries, and log entries.
   - Read and initial Shift Change Report at the beginning of the shift and record in the same at the end of the shift.
   - Greet new clients, provide required orientation, and offer support, assistance, encouragement, and referrals.
   - Enforce agency rules and expectations consistently in accordance with Policies and Procedures.
   - Maintain all appropriate documentation and recording.
   - Ensure the upkeep and tidiness of supplies, including toiletries, linen/towels, binders, files, etc.
   - Ensure clients have adequate supplies of needed items and return any Cornerstone property if they leave during your shift.
   - Follow through on all safety and security procedures as outlined in the policy and procedures manual.
   - Participate in case management reviews as required, following through on any action plans, and monitoring the same daily.
   - Make regular rounds throughout the floor, including hourly checks of all rooms and common areas.
   - Work cooperatively with staff from various Cornerstone ministries to provide exemplary client service delivery.

2. Organizational Responsibilities:
   - Develop an understanding of the Mission of Cornerstone as related to position responsibilities.
   - Maintain information in confidence as required.
   - Participate as an active and responsible team member in all workgroups through which position responsibilities are achieved.
   - Treat the property of Cornerstone with due care and caution.
   - Represent the organization in a professional and engaging manner and assist personnel whom the position supports in developing those skills as required.
   - Participate in the supervision and performance appraisal process.
   - Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

3. Health and Safety:
   - Work closely with staff, identifying any safety and security needs.
   - Comply with OSHA Act and Regulations and Cornerstone’s health and safety policies and procedures.
   - Use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.
   - Report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries, or illness.
   - Perform other position-related duties as required.

Work Schedule:
Shifts will be 4 to 8 hours, with all days available, up to 30 hours per week.

​

Compensation:
Pay is minimum wage.

​

Qualifications:

   - Ability to maintain open communication with all staff and work as a member of the team.
   - Consistently maintain a positive attitude.
   - Ability to handle clerical duties, including client documentation, log entries, and computer entries.
   - Ability to enforce agency rules and expectations consistently.
   - Must pass a background check.
