You may have seen our silver van around town before. Our 18-year-old van is an old gal with more than 108,000 miles on her that she racked up over her 7 years of helping Cornerstone pick up food, move shelter clients to permanent housing, pick up furniture and clothing, and do general transportation as needed.

Her job is as straightforward as it is critical: She gets our volunteers out to several grocery stores three days a week so we can pick up a monthly average of 30,000 pounds of food. She has lugged 164,000 pounds since January 1st. Add in food from other sources and it adds up to a lot of poundage! This isn't counting weekly trips to CT Foodshare or monthly trips to Midwest Food Bank for additional items.

Unfortunately, as the need for food has risen, the age and capacity of this van has become an issue. We have to make multiple trips because we can't fit everything in, or we've had to turn down needed food donations in some cases. We have had to make several repairs due to the wear and tear she gets. The smaller interior also means limitations on pallet sizes requiring hand loading and unloading.

Of course, she's also been the main transport for our shelter folks when the happy event of their getting housing occurs. Our Clothing Bank, Etc. has filled her up with furniture, household items, and such so our folks can move into their new place and have what they need.

The time has come to add a newer, higher capacity, energy efficient cargo van. Your donation today will help us get more food, with greater efficiency and less travel. It means we can take advantage of larger food donations that we have had to pass up.

Help us raise the money so we can feed your neighbors and help move previously homeless people to their new living space!

Please help us, help others!
