The Cornerstone Youth Outreach Program provides a safe place for middle and high school aged youth residing in Rockville. The activities include basketball, foosball, Ping-Pong, pool, movies, workshops and groups. Positive connections with adults is what changes lives. As part of the program, trained staff is expected to engage the youth during their activities, with the goal of building a trusting, nurturing, and mutually respectful relationship.
Lead staff is trauma-informed and aware that youth who have experienced trauma display behaviors that must be managed accordingly. In addition, staff is aware of current issues that youth face and work with youth in groups and individually to help them work through and overcome various challenges. Staff encourages appropriate behavior in school, at home, and in the community.
The program has gone through a number of changes in the past few years. Looking towards the future, we would like to offer additional hours, programs, and experiences for our youth.
Volunteers make all the difference in the lives of our youth, join us!
