Bryan Flint, Sr. and family honor memory of son by serving at Community Kitchen

In the early morning hours of June 28, 2013, Bryan Flint, Jr.'s parents received the worst news they could imagine. The police were knocking on their doors to inform them that their son had passed away unexpectedly in the night.

Bryan was the youngest child and only son of Bryan Flint, Sr. and Penny Zuidema. Together with his step-parents, siblings, extended family and friends, they mourned the life of a young man gone too soon, he was only 25. Bryan Jr. died of a ruptured brain aneurysm.

As his family enters into the 10th year of his passing, they imagine ways to keep his memory alive.

Bryan Flint, Sr. is the Deputy Director at The Cornerstone Foundation in Rockville, CT. He had suggested that the family honor Bryan Jr. with a "Day of Service" at Cornerstone's Community Kitchen on what would have been Bryan Jr.'s 35th birthday, March 27, 2023.

"In honor of Bryan and the celebration of his life, I know he would prefer us to pass on the love we have bottled up in our hearts for him to others in need of love and hope." says Mystica Flint, his older sister. "He was very caring and extremely empathetic, I know if Bry Bry were here he would lend a hand, a shoulder, or a meal to anyone he met."Mystica adds.

Bryan Flint, Sr. and his family will be cooking and serving the dinner meal. They will be making tacos, one of Bryan Jr.'s favorite meals.

"The hardest part for me is that my own children were so young when Bry Bry passed that they don't remember him. It's up to me and my family to keep my brother's memory alive and a day of service in his honor is a great way to do that." Shares Alexis Carmicheal, older sister of Bryan, Jr. and Cornerstone's Communications Director.

Bryan Jr's mother, Penny Zuidema, shares, "This is such a great way to honor my son, he would love that the family is giving back to the community."

"I've always loved this picture with my three brothers so much. It's like we're all looking toward Bry and he's smiling and waving, almost like he's saying'It's going to be OK, I'm at peace!' I miss my brother so much. He was always so fun to be around. It breaks my heart that he never got the chance to meet my kids, but I'm so grateful my family can do something like this to honor his memory." Cassi Kanner, younger sister of Bryan Jr. shares.

The Flint family will be purchasing all of the ingredients for the taco meal and will cook the meal and serve it from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Monday, March 27. As always, all are welcome to enjoy any meal offered by the Community Kitchen.
