When ShopRite opened its new store in the Tri-City Plaza in March 2020, the Manager,
Bill Evans, contacted me with an idea for providing support for the Cornerstone Food
Cupboard. He suggested that the store prepare and sell $5 and $10 bags of
nonperishable foods, and the food would be donated to the Cupboard. I, of course,
jumped at the idea of this new support for the Cupboard.
We received our first load of the bags on March 13, 2020 and since then we have
received almost 47,000 nonperishable food items! And what makes this ongoing
donation even more special is that ShopRite includes food items that we have identified
as most needed at the Cupboard and the bag contents are changed whenever our
needs change.
We are most grateful for this ongoing support from ShopRite and thankful that so many
of their shoppers continue to purchase the bags. Also I want to thank Bill Hallin, one of
the founding volunteer members of our Cupboard for taking the lead in picking up the
bags every week and then unpacking the bags back at the Cupboard.
